Opinion: Kevin Love will become a Cav
I’m writing this before F Kevin Love gets traded and before the Cleveland Cavaliers sign G Andrew Wiggins.
Just like the national media, I do believe that Love will go to the Cavs, and I do believe his representatives will make it certain that Love will only resign with the Cavs. I also believe that Love will be traded before the start of the regular season. The one thing I don’t know is what will be given up for Love.
I personally believe there are a lot of people out in the world that think a trade can be made that simple when it is not the case. A trade does not happen so quickly like in an NBA video game or ESPN’s Trade Machine. When making a trade, you have to make sure you’re putting your franchise in the right position and that your fans have something to look forward to.
Like Fox Sports Ohio’s Sam Amico said, “Plenty of folks around NBA predict Kevin Love will eventually ask TWolves to trade him to CLE. Not a fact, but it is a belief.” There have been a few players in recent years of Love’s All-Star status who have the ability to demand a trade to a certain team and get his wish. When that happens, the team usually obliges and tries to make a trade with the player’s chosen team.
In the case of Carmelo Anthony, Anthony forced his way out of the Denver organization to his hometown team, the New York Knicks.
Dwight Howard is another player who recently forced his way out of the Orlando Magic, as he wanted to go to the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets and Magic tried to complete a trade, but nothing ever happened. The Magic moved on to different teams and eventually traded Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he later departed in free agency for the Houston Rockets.
In more cases than not, the players will get what they want, and if Love only cares about winning, he’ll prioritize Cleveland at the top of his list.
